Run for Peace (“RFP 2013”) is a non-competitive event organized by SGM to create awareness of peace and a healthy lifestyle in society. This event aims to encourage people of all backgrounds and ages to come together for the sake of peace whilst promoting personal and community health and to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. It is a biennial event which started in 2005. In 2011, we gathered 15,000 participants in Selangor, Johor and Penang. Due to this good response, we have decided to spread the message of peace further and will host this event throughout the nation in 2013.
WHY RUN FOR PEACE?
SGI President Ikeda states : “The SGI’s activities are based on the conviction that a change in the inner lives of individual human beings must be at the heart of building a culture of peace. And we are convinced that open-minded dialogue, however inconspicuous the initial results, is the best and most effective catalyst for such”.
In response to SGI President Ikeda’s call on creating a “Culture of Peace”, a concept that rejects violence and conflicts by having dialogues between individuals, groups and countries, ‘Run For Peace’ strives to create awareness and understanding of the importance of developing a culture of peace within ourselves and our community.
This event is organised to commemorate the “Declaration Calling for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons” by 2nd President of Soka Gakkai, Josei Toda on September 8th, 1957.
